The genus Phalaris includes grasses widely distributed in temperate regions, known for their ecological and agricultural importance. Phalaris arundinacea and Phalaris tuberosa stand out for their forage potential and their ability to adapt to different climatic conditions. The aim of this article is to conduct a systematic review of the biological, ecological, and agronomic characteristics of both species. A literature search was carried out in scientific databases (PubMed, SciELO, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Springer), using terms such as pastures, forage, Phalaris, grass, and reed canary grass, and applying inclusion and exclusion criteria to select relevant studies. Articles published between 2010 and 2024 were examined. A total of 99.2% of the documents were written in English, and the United States led scientific production with 27% of publications. Research focused on environmental impact (60%) and invasive species control (29%), leaving little room for genetics (5%) and nutrition (5%) topics. These results underscore the need to broaden the research focus and encourage comparative studies among species of the genus Phalaris.Downloads
