Investment in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in Colombia is scarce and not integrated with the production system, which diminishes the country's competitiveness at the regional level. This editorial examines the crucial importance of sustained and strategic investment in STI as a pillar for the country's progress and analyzes the fundamental importance of strategic and sustained investment in STI as a pillar for national development. It presents its direct benefits, such as economic growth and technological advances, and indirect benefits, such as educational strengthening and poverty reduction in the long term. Using the case of Brazil as a warning about the negative consequences of disinvestment including talent flight and innovative stagnation highlighting this critical situation. We conclude that Government and the private sector must recognize investment in STI not as an expense, but as a cornerstone for building a resilient, sustainable, and competitive knowledge society on the global stage.Downloads
