Abstract

The purpose of this research was to conduct a diagnosis of wastewater discharge management in the urban population surrounding the Espinal Creek, determining the population census of homes located around this body of water that do not have sewage service and discharge their wastewater into it. In this study, wastewater discharge management evaluation methods and theories were used to establish improvement programs in accordance with Colombian legislation decrees: 3930 of 2010 and 2667 of 2012, concerning the monitoring and tracking program of water sources and investment projects in water decontamination, which were carried out in accordance with the Sanitation and Discharge Management Plan (PSMV) led by the company EAAA de El Espinal E. S. P. Five environmental management programs were formulated to mitigate the negative environmental effects on the water body under study: 1) environmental education program, 2) sewer connection program, 3) discharge management and handling program, 4) Espinal ravine micro-basin beautification program, and 5) monitoring and tracking program. This study concludes the community's perceived need and priority for implementing timely actions to improve its current health conditions, in conjunction with monitoring and follow-up activities by entities committed to environmental care and preservation.
