Abstract

The avocado is a perennial plant native to Central America that, like other fruit trees, presents a rhythmic growth; stages of growth flushes and stages of bud dormancy are distinguished. The occurrence of vegetative growth flows in juvenile avocado plants of the “Hass” variety, the average duration of the flows, the number of aborted buds, the growth in length, the formation of branches and internodes during a flow were evaluated. The average time of the flows was 31 days; the number of active buds on average decreased from six to three, evidencing abscission. The tertiary branches showed a quadratic growth trend, with a gradual decrease until reaching a constant value of six branches, while the growth in length of the shoots approached a sigmoid curve.
