Public health has undergone a shift in recent years through the coordination of actions and functions of different professions, following guidelines issued by various international institutions such as the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This coordination seeks to achieve a balance between the interrelationship of humans, the environment, and animals, considering them as a whole rather than as separate actors. Within this interface, human populations play an essential role in the development of health programs that include the prevention and control of foodborne and vector-borne diseases, in addition to achieving a balance that seeks the efficient and sustainable production of animal protein for human food security. This document describes the background of the concept of One Health, delves deeper into the concept of zoonoses, and describes the One Health approach to these types of diseases. Likewise, it clarifies, deepens, and brings to the table the discussion and importance of addressing zoonoses in the One Health model described by various global institutions.Downloads
